We know this is a stressful time. And our mission will always be to make a sweeping effort to make life less stressful.

As we all stay home and do our part to maintain healthy social distancing practices and flatten the COVID-19 curve, it’s easy to start to feel cooped up. A little at-home isolation can go a long way, after all! That’s why we wanted to take some time to give you some fresh and fun ideas for keeping your home’s most loved spaces feeling brand new. This week: the master bedroom.

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary of peace and solitude, a place where you can get away from it all. This is the room where you start and end your day, and it’s important to create a space that’s serene, comfortable, and totally rejuvenating.

So, what can you do when your master bedroom starts to feel a little bit tired or dull, especially right now?

If weeks of social distancing have made you all-too-familiar with every corner of the room, here are ten simple steps you can take to make your bedroom feel just like new in no time — while staying safe and healthy at home:

1.) Rearrange Your Furniture

When your bedroom starts to feel blah, a minor adjustment like rearranging the furniture can do wonders for helping you enjoy the space again. Switch the dresser from one wall to another, or change the angle of the bed. Bring a chair from the living room into the bedroom, or switch out your wall art. Think about how you can maximize your square footage, get creative, and dive in — you’ll be amazed by how much just one or two swaps can help you totally appreciate your space again.

2.) Add Some Luxury Touches

Staycation, anyone? When you’re stuck at home, give yourself the experience of being at a five-star resort by breaking out your most luxurious sheets, hanging a fluffy robe on the door, slipping on comfy slippers, tossing extra pillows on the bed, or filling up the bedside table with gorgeous bottles of lotion and perfume. Looking for ideas to make your master bath feel like a luxurious spa? We’ve got some ideas for adding the perfect touch, available here.

3.) Bring In More Natural Light

Room feeling dark and drab? Try doing some simple DIY projects that can help increase the amount of light in your room — like hanging mirrors, adding white sheets and decor pieces, clearing away trees and other outdoor obstructions, and keeping your windows clean. For our guide to cleaning your windows, blinds, and frames, read on here. Looking for a foolproof way to keep your mirrors clean and bright? Check out this blog for our go-to ideas.

4.) Make Your Bed Every Morning

It’s scientifically proven that making your bed each day can help give you more energy and focus. If you generally skip this chore when you first wake up, try doing up your bed completely each morning for seven days. You’d be amazed by how much of a difference you’ll feel — and how much more you’ll appreciate your bedroom in no time at all!

5.) Reorganize Your Dressers or Closet

Dresser full of clothes that just keep piling on top of each other? Closet with bits and pieces of outfits hanging everywhere? When you’re looking for a project, why not start there? Take some time to declutter your bedroom’s storage areas — and don’t forget to wipe down the shelves and clean the floors while you can get to them! As you load your clothes back in, look for creative ways to keep things organized. You could section off your looks by season, organize by color or fit, or add in tons of new storage hacks, like over-the-door organizers or stackable boxes.

6.) Take Time for a Deep Cleaning

Often, it’s the little, almost imperceptible things that can have the biggest impact on your mood. If you’re growing sick of your bedroom, take some time to do a deep cleaning — including all of the areas you might normally overlook or avoid. Clean the dust off your ceiling fan blades, knock that cobweb out of the corner, polish up your molding and trim, and get those dust bunnies out from under the bed. Your future self will thank you!

7.) Make the Space Smell Amazing

Smell is one of the most powerful of our five senses, and the one most closely tied to our memory. So, it stands to reason that changing up the way your bedroom smells is a great way to make it feel brand new! Bring in essential oil diffusers, candles, or misting sprays to give your bedroom a fresh, clean feeling. Look for aromas that might help to give you energy in the morning, or fall asleep easily at night.

8.) Enhance Your Audio

Whether you’re looking to take a break from the world for a few minutes, or give yourself some background noise while you do work or tackle your to-do list, it helps to have high quality audio in the bedroom. Look for smart speakers that can sync wirelessly with your smartphone or tablet, making it easy to listen to tunes while you focus on other things. Tired of noisy neighbors or the sounds of traffic when you go to bed? Invest in a white noise machine or find a speaker that can play gentle, soothing soundscapes to help lull you to sleep.

Don’t forget to keep your favorite speakers and electronics equipment clean! We’ve got your go-to guide for cleaning all of your favorite gadgets, right here.

9.) Bring In Some Life with Flowers and Houseplants

There’s nothing like a little greenery to totally refresh and reinvigorate a tired space. In addition to adding a pop of color and a chic design element, some houseplants may be able to purify the air in your space, helping you breathe easier… literally.

Want to help keep your houseplants healthy? We’ve got a guide to dusting your plant’s leaves and branches, right here. Spilled some dirt or knocked over a watering can? Here’s how to clean up after your indoor garden.

10.) Add Just a Touch of Paint

Have some old paint cans in the attic or garage? Look for creative ways to add color to your space. We’re not saying you have to paint the walls from floor to ceiling. Instead, try taking on a few small projects that can add a breath of fresh air to a tired space — like adding an accent to your built-ins, repainting some wooden furniture, or touching up your windowsill or doorway with a bright new shade.
